Meet Coach Secor
I am a basketball junkie and have spent my entire life playing, coaching, and teaching the game of basketball. I've been an educator for 23 years with 11 of those as an elementary principal. For 23 straight seasons, I've coached a basketball team with 18 of those at the varsity level including 12 as head coach. I was fortunate enough to work with great coaches and players that helped us to win over 15 championships and help to put kids at the D1, D2, D3, NAIA, and JuCo level. Recently, I've coached both local and club travel teams. I was responsible for designing the drills, practices, and development of players in our youth program (grades 3-6) for over a decade. With my coaching connections, I've been able to observe so many talented high school and college coaches during practice to carefully view how they approach teaching their players to shoot the ball.
In the last couple of years I've read, watched, and studied shooting philosophies and consulted with shooting coaches at all levels to develop my beliefs surrounding teaching shooting. I started #MakeShots shooting training in the summer of 2018 because I thought it was a missing piece in the development of area players. I believe my background as a varsity coach, educator, and shooting expertise gives players the opportunity to have a true individual shooting coach which is an opportunity that doesn't exist. I have trained over 4,000 players including professionals, D1 college players, elite high schoolers, as well as middles schoolers and elementary players. I was called a "shooting guru" in an MLive article in March of 2020 and asked to speak at the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) conference in 2020.
